Tottenham scouts keeping tabs on Eastern European star with 11 G/A this season.

Tottenham are interested in signing Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Georgiy Sudakov

Tottenham Hotspur enjoyed a productive summer transfer window, reinforcing the squad that finished fifth in Ange Postecoglou’s first year in North London. However, results have been extremely inconsistent and improvements are certainly required to boost their top-four hopes in the second half of the campaign.

Having signed young talents such as Wilson Odobert, Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray on top of breaking the club transfer record for Dominic Solanke, Ange Postecoglou is looking to make further alterations to his squad at the turn of the year.

Football London journalist Alasdair Gold has revealed that the Tottenham boss would love to sign a creative midfielder when the transfer window reopens in January. And Shakhtar Donetsk star Georgiy Sudakov has emerged as a target for the Lilywhites.

According to an exclusive report from TBR Football, Tottenham scouts were in attendance on Thursday to watch Georgiy Sudakov in action for Shakhtar Donetsk against PSV Eindhoven in the Europa League.

Shakhtar Donetsk suffered a late heartbreak as Ricardo Pepi scored the winner in stoppage time, only a matter of moments after Malik Tilman had equalised for the Dutch giants. Sudakov had a good game and completed 90 minutes on the European night.

The 22-year-old is enjoying a fantastic season with Shakhtar. He has racked up 13 league appearances, registering seven goals and two assists as Shakhtar are third in the table. The Ukrainian’s performances in the Champions League have seemingly caught the attention of several top clubs, with the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs and Manchester City having all made enquiries for him at some stage in the last 18 months.

The aforementioned report adds Sudakov is ready to move for pastures new in January and Shakhtar are open to selling him. The Ukrainian giants are demanding in the region of £50m for the creative midfielder, who has a contract until December 2028 (Transfermarkt).

Sudakov has been playing some impressive football in Ukraine. He could be a valuable asset to Ange Postecoglou’s squad, competing with the current crop of midfielders. Indeed, the prospect of moving to Spurs could appeal to the Ukraine international, as Big Ange’s men are still in the Europa League, as well as chasing a top-four spot in the Premier League.

This is the kind of signing that will particularly excite the Tottenham Hotspur faithful, as they look to become a consistent outfit under Big Ange this season, and there will be hope that they can bring in some quality in January to help sustain a top-four push. However, Sudakov’s acquisition could signal the end of James Maddison at the club, having been in and out of the team in recent weeks.
