Frenkie de Jong – a game changer signing for Tottenham? – Opinion

published :

Tottenham Hotspur have been looking to sign a new midfielder at White Hart Lane in the upcoming 2025 transfer intervals, with Frenkie De Jong being the latest maestro subject to links with a move to N17.

Ange Postecoglou has been thin on options in the middle of the park, and Daniel Levy will be looking to ensure that he replaces the veteran presence of Pierre Emile Hojbjerg and Giovani Lo Celso at N17.

The Lilywhites have been named as the potential suitors for the Dutchman’s signature alongside rivals Manchester United, per Fichajes.

Following a difficult start to his campaign complemented by injury problems, the 27-year-old looks like he is on borrowed time at Camp Nou, and while he could be an important asset to Hansi Flick, the Catalans may finally choose to redeem his services given their financial conditions alongside their wants to compound on the roster at Camp Nou.

And if Levy does successfully bring the striker to N17, it would be a great statement of intent and a potential game-changer for Ange Postecoglou in the middle of the park.

Need for Frenkie at N17?

Ange needs a lot of what De Jong brings…

We have seen Spurs lacking in the creative and controlling areas of the midfield in the ongoing campaign that has pushed conversations about possibly getting a new face to do so, and in De Jong the Lilywhites get someone who has the ability to not only dictate play but also press forward and break up opposition attacks.

Moreover, considering his experience at Barcelona, complemented by the quality that he has been showcasing at the international level with the Netherlands, he can become a leader presence in the midfield, especially after the departures of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Giovani Lo Celso.

That being said, it wouldn’t be easy to land his signatures, and Daniel Levy will need to be proactive in negotiations with Barcelona to ensure that the North Londoners aren’t left behind in the race for his signatures.
