Transfer News: Ange Postecoglou reveals key Tottenham position he is keen to reinforce in 2025

Date:

If it’s not injuries, it’s underwhelming performances hampering Tottenham’s forward players this season.

As the January transfer window approaches, the Tottenham boss is looking around for answers, and they may have to come from outside the club.

Transfer News: Ange Postecoglou reveals key Tottenham position he is keen to reinforce in 2025.

Speaking in a recent press conference, Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou discussed the challenges his forward line has been facing this season.

“Yeah, there is no doubt because when you add Wilson [Odobert] to that [injury list], even Mikey [Moore], we had Dom [Dominic Solanke] out at the weekend, you hope that alleviates. With Wilson it’s long-term, hopefully Mikey by the turn of year will be back as well, but he’s 17.

“With Richy [Richarlison] it has been frustrating because I see the potential in him and to be fair when he’s been fit he’s always made an impact, for me anyway. I think back to the start of last year and when he came back into the team during the year he went on a scoring run.

“Even the little games he’s played this year, he’s made an impact. So, you know, that’s what you kind of hold on to, but there’s no doubt we need some bolstering in that front third over the next couple of transfer windows.

“Dom coming in has been great, but again we can’t overload him either, because ultimately, you know, even if he stays fit and nothing happens, performance will invariably drop if his energy levels drop. So it’s something we’re aware of and need to plan for.”

The injuries, lack of form, and transfer links have reinvigorated the rumour mill linking Lille forward Jonathan David with a move to North London with the January transfer window less than a week away.

The Canada international remains consistent with his output in front of goal and has 15 goals and two assists in 22 appearances this season across all competitions.

With his €37.5k-per-week contract entering the final six months this January, Lille may be inclined to agree a lower fee for their talisman striker than his current €45m Transfermarkt valuation to ensure they don’t lose him for free. Angel Gomes, also linked with Tottenham, is already set to leave the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

Tottenham ought to move for Jonathan David

Given his current situation, David makes for a target right there for the taking for Tottenham. They should try everything in their power to see if a move cannot happen this January. His arrival could see him either link up with Dominic Solanke or offer Postecoglou another way to revitalise his front three.

Arsenal have also been linked with David, and he is the kind of striker they currently do not have. By bringing him to North London, Spurs could also get one over their red rivals.
