Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is under immense pressure after defeat to Chelsea
Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou will be in uncharted territory this week as talk about his future at N17 comes under the microscope.
The Greek-Australian tactician’s side suffered a 4-3 defeat to London rivals Chelsea and having held a 2-0 advantage after 11 minutes, this would have the White Hart Lane fuming, especially when considering the start they have made to the 2024/25 campaign. The North Londoners sit 11th in the Premier League table with just six wins from 15 after Sunday’s defeat, which leaves Ange Postecoglou with just one victory from his last seven.
The pressure is piling on the 59-year-old after incredibly inconsistent performances since the beginning of the campaign. Spurs insider Paul O Keefe has shared an update on his X account about rumours surrounding Postecoglou’s sacking. He says the Lilywhites’ defeats to Rangers and Southampton could make the veteran manager’s position ‘very precarious’.
Big Ange is 18 months into his four-year deal but Tottenham honcho Daniel Levy has a history of sacking managers. The environment around him is confident that he is not in immediate danger of being booted out, having recruited young, exciting talents with high potential in the past summer transfer window.
However, Sunday’s loss to bitter London rivals Chelsea may not have cost the Greece-born head coach’s job but further defeats to Rangers and Southampton in the Europa League and the Premier League respectively could seal his fate. Tottenham have dropped to 11th in the standings, although they remain only seven points adrift of fourth spot.
One has to feel for Big Ange for having to deal with so many injuries to his key players. Such setbacks, including Cristian Romero, Brennan Johnson and Micky van de Ven’s during the game on Sunday, have largely impacted the team’s performance levels. This hasn’t allowed the Australian gaffer to achieve stability in his second season in North London.

The club could welcome reinforcements in January to freshen up the squad currently hit with so many injuries and fitness concerns, but Big Ange needs to buy time for himself by getting wins against Rangers and Southampton.
