Ange Postecoglou’s position at Tottenham is in jeopardy after the defeat to Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur suffered another disappointing 4-3 defeat at home to Chelsea on Sunday, despite taking a 2-0 lead within 11 minutes through goals from Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski.

This means Spurs have won only once in their last seven games across all competitions. They have failed to build on last month’s 4-0 smashing of Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, managing two draws and as many defeats in their last four games.

This has raised serious questions about the future of Ange Postecoglou at the club. After enjoying a fine debut season in North London, the 59-year-old has failed to provide stability to the team largely due to injuries to key players. His options in the squad have been reduced to thin because of injuries, fitness concerns and suspension, and with Spurs playing almost every three days of late, it has become difficult for Postecoglou and his players to cope.

Nonetheless, the pressure is mounting on the Australian manager and should the club look to make a change in the hotseat, the Athletic reporter Adam Crafton has singled out Brentford boss Thomas Frank as a man who could take the helm at the Hotspur Way. He posted on his X account:

Thomas Frank has done a brilliant job since becoming Brentford’s manager. He was promoted as the club’s head coach after Dean Smith’s departure in October 2018, and the Dane has since helped the Bees achieve top-flight status in 2021 and maintain it for three successive seasons.

The 51-year-old’s work and achievements across the capital at the Gtech Community Stadium have been eye-catching, and after spending six years as the Brentford head coach, Frank could be enticed to move to Spurs in the hunt for a more rewarding challenge should the North Londoners make an approach.

However, Big Ange continues to have the full backing of the chiefs at the Hotspur Way at the moment. The upcoming games against Rangers and Southampton have become extremely crucial from the viewpoint of Big Ange’s future at Tottenham. He will have to win those games and transform the club’s fortunes to prolong his stay at White Hart Lane.
