Tottenham Hotspur’s squad have been ravaged by injuries this season
Tottenham Hotspur’s story of incredible inconsistency continued on Sunday as they were beaten 4-3 by Chelsea at home in an exciting Premier League fixture.
After Chelsea’s 4-3 win at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium on Sunday afternoon, pressure is starting to crank up on Ange Postecoglou. He is halfway into his second season in North London, and despite having signed a four-year deal with the club in 2023, Spurs chief Daniel Levy has a history of sacking managers.
Ange Postecoglou has only won one of his last seven games across all competitions, and it was undoubtedly his toughest test, winning 4-0 against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in an emphatic manner. However, the Greek-Australian tactician has failed to build on that impressive smashing of Man City, drawing two and losing as many in his last four games in charge.

The defeat to Chelsea left Tottenham in the bottom half of the Premier League table and increased scrutiny on Postecoglou, who needs to quickly turn around the club’s fortunes. While most players including Cristian Romero have backed their gaffer during the testing period, BBC Sport journalist Nizaar Kinsella claims that one unnamed Spurs player voiced concerns about the squad’s lack of quality depth to compete at the highest level.
“One player, whose identity is withheld to protect his position in the dressing room, simply believes the squad lacks depth and that further investment is needed to push towards the top of the table.” Kinsella was quoted by GIVEMESPORT.
Tottenham invested well in the past summer transfer window, breaking their transfer record to sign Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth and acquiring talents such as Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall and Wilson Odobert. The Lilywhites could dip their toes in the January transfer window to freshen up the squad ravaged by injury problems.

With pressure mounting on Big Ange, injury woes are also increasing, as Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven both limped off while Brennan Johnson was substituted early in the second half of the game for not feeling 100 per cent on Sunday. They were already without Guglielmo Vicario, Richarlison, Ben Davies, Mikey Moore and Odobert, whereas Rodrigo Bentancur continues to serve his seven-game domestic suspension.
Before locking horns against Southampton in the Premier League, the club from North London travel to the Ibrox Stadium to face Rangers in the Europa League. While it is true that Tottenham don’t have the squad to compete at the highest level, Big Ange has to make do with the resources he has at his disposal.
