Accident could hamper Tottenham pursuit of 20-year-old Premier League attacker

Garth Crooks believes Tottenham must go for Julen Lopetegui.

Tottenham Hotspur have been looking to sign a new backup striker at White Hart Lane, and they have been linked with a Brighton ace, Evan Ferguson, as the North Londoners look to bring in a project striker to play understudy to Dominic Solanke at N17.

The Lilywhites have Richarlison playing the backup role for the centre-forward position at the moment; however, the Brazilian international hasn’t lived up to the expectations of donning the Spurs badge. Moreover, frustrations have been growing owing to his lack of availability and inconsistencies on the pitch, so much so that the chiefs at Hotspur Way could call curtains to the former Everton striker’s time at Tottenham.

West Ham enter race for Evan Ferguson

Tottenham could land Arsenal target Evan Ferguson in January.
Tottenham could look to sign Evan Ferguson in January.

Tottenham have been looking to push for Evan Ferguson, with the 20-year-old reduced to bits and parts of a role for the Seagulls as Joao Pedro and Danny Welbeck solidify their roles in the striking position. With Ferguson looking for some game time and stability, Spurs are ready to pounce on that to land a highly acclaimed striker.

However, in a surprising turn of events, Tottenham’s London rivals West Ham have entered the race for the player, per a report from Football Insider, with the Hammers looking to step up their efforts to land a new number nine following Michail Antonio’s road accident. And interest from Lopetegui’s side could complicate Spurs’ efforts to bring the promising talent to White Hart Lane.

As we come near the winter transfer window, Levy will have to act quickly if he is to bring Ferguson to N17 as Spurs look to act before their London rivals step up their pursuit for his services.
