Djed Spence has never had opportunities to showcase his talent at Tottenham
Djed Spence has had a frustrating time at Tottenham Hotspur.
The Lilywhites signed the former England youth international from Middlesbrough in a £20 million deal in 2022. They beat a host of clubs for the full-back’s signature, with Djed Spence then regarded as one of the hottest prospects in the Championship circuit.
However, his career at Tottenham hasn’t just taken off ever since former boss Antonio Conte decided that he did not want him in his side. The 24-year-old spent the last 18 months out on loan at clubs such as Rennes, Leeds United and Genoa before returning to Tottenham in the summer.

While Ange Postecoglou has been willing to give Djed Spence his first-team opportunities at Tottenham this season, the right-back hasn’t quite got the game time he’d have hoped for. He has made only five appearances across all competitions, clocking 109 minutes in the process.
Now, according to an exclusive report from GIVEMESPORT, Spence is set to be the subject of approaches during the January transfer window as interested parties have been alerted over his bleak situation at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Several admirers are planning to determine whether the English talent is in Ange Postecoglou’s immediate plans or if there is a prospect of him leaving Spurs for the second half of the season.
Despite arriving at the club as a prodigious talent, Spence has not been given his fair share of opportunities to make a name for himself. As a result, he had to leave Tottenham on loan for regular game time in the last 18 months. The attacking full-back/wing-back was quite good in his last loan spell at Genoa, where he had made 16 appearances in Serie A.
The aforementioned report adds the North London outfit are waiting until January to give the interested parties an inclination on Spence’s short-term future; however, his admirers are positive that he will be allowed to leave on loan.

Pedro Porro remains the undisputed first-choice right-back under Postecoglou, and regardless of various injuries to key players in the backline, the Spanish international has been able to retain his spot in the team. With summer signing Archie Gray also able to slot in at right-back when required, Spence’s prospects only look like diminishing further, leaving his White Hart Lane career at a crossroads.
Despite being regularly overlooked by Big Ange, the club surprised almost every Spurs fan by giving Spence a contract extension in October. This saw the defender extend his stay at N17 until the summer of 2028 (Transfermarkt). This leaves the North Londoners in a strong negotiation position ahead of embracing potential offers for the player next month.
