Tottenham have been severely hit with a spate of injuries to key players
Tottenham Hotspur are in the midst of an injury crisis, and it doesn’t look like easing up soon for Ange Postecoglou and his staff.
The North Londoners were already missing key players before the game against Chelsea on Sunday. After the 4-3 defeat to Chelsea, they suffered a double injury blow as returning defenders Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven were both forced off the pitch.
Romero suffered a quad problem and is expected to be out for over a month, while Van de Ven seemed to pull his hamstring once again. He could miss the action for the next three weeks. The defensive duo have now joined Guglielmo Vicario, Richarlison, Wilson Odobert and Mikey Moore on the treatment table, while Rodrigo Bentancur is serving a seven-game domestic ban.

On top of that, Yves Bissouma picked up his fifth yellow card of the Premier League season against Chelsea and will miss Sunday’s game against basement club Southampton. All these injuries and suspensions have significantly hampered the Lilywhites’ performance levels and results since the start of the season.
Ahead of Spurs’ crucial away game against Rangers in the Europa League, Ange Postecoglou was asked by the media about dealing with the never-ending injury problems. The Tottenham boss was upbeat in his response. (h/t Football London)
“It’s challenging. We’ve also got Ben Davies out who played a big part while the other two have been out. It’s no secret we’re thin on numbers both squad wise and position-wise. But it is what is, we can’t change that, we’ve got some big games coming up starting tomorrow. We’ll have to deal with what we’ve got. I’m still confident we’ll be able to get the job done with players at our disposal.”

For any manager, it is extremely difficult to get consistent performances and results from a squad that is hit severely with multiple injuries. Tottenham’s fixture list is packed over the next few weeks, and losing Romero and Van de Ven to fresh injuries immediately after the defensive duo returned from a spell on the sidelines are massive setback.

With some crucial players missing, the door could be open for a few young players to now get chances to impress. Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray and Djed Spence have been waiting patiently to get a run in the team this season.
