Tottenham Hotspur have been looking to sign a new centre-half in the upcoming winter transfer window, and the North Londoners are said to be interested in 27-year-old Paraguayan defender Omar Alderete with Antena2 boldly claiming that he is joining Spur.
The Lilywhites have an immediate need to bring in reinforcements at the heart of the park given the injury struggles of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven in the ongoing season and how their absence has affected their season. Ange Postecoglou only has Radu Dragusin as a reliable backup, with veteran Ben Davies filling in when required.
Omar Alderete brings a blend of physique and ball play
Daniel Levy’s reported interest in Omar Alderete shows the need to bring in a central defender at Whtie Hart Lane as the chiefs at N17 look to stabilise what has been a faltering season and the Paraguayan international can bring in multiple much-required facets at the heart of the defence.
The Getafe defender has proved to be a strong physical presence at the back and an aerially dominant player who has the ability to read the game and is also not shy of creating chances from the back, which makes him quite suitable for the physical game in England and an ideal player to push Ange Postecoglou’s backline.
Alderete has a blend of experience, and given his peak age, he is quite athletic and physical, which could help Spurs a long way, particularly against teams that have been looking to exploit the backline aerially and on physical duels.
The ongoing injury problems to Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have left Spurs on the back foot, and the lack of depth in the defence calls for new signings, and Alderete is the latest subject to links with N17.
