Tottenham Hotspur cannot catch a break. Their inability to strong together positive results consistently is further not helped by the increasing numbers of players getting sidelined through injury.
Ostensibly, the club have decided that it has gone too far, and something’s got to give.
Tottenham launch review of medical department amid injury crisis
As reported by The Standard, Tottenham Hotspur have begun a second investigation into their medical team within a year after multiple injury relapses.
The Lilywhites’ woes at the back were further exacerbated during their recent Premier League defeat to Chelsea, as their first-choice centre-backs Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, having returned from injuries, picked up fresh blows and were subbed off at different points in the game.
This comes not too long after Wilson Odobert also being sidelined for long moments after returning from a long-term injury. Richarlison, too, has been nursing injury issues since the back end of last season.
Additional injury to Ben Davies has left Spurs with just one fully-fit out-and-out centre-back in Radu Drăgușin. Ange Postecoglou has called this the worst injury crisis of his managerial career.
TTLB Opinion
In the lead-up to the Chelsea game, neither Romero nor Van de Ven were mooted as potential starters, and yet both of them started the game and came off mid-game.
This is simply unacceptable. In a game that continues moving further away from the players, this reflects very poorly on Spurs. Both the medical staff and Postecoglou need to take responsibility for this recurring pattern of injury relapses, and big changes need to be enforced before something even more serious happens.
Tottenham want to present themselves to youth prospects as a great intermediate destination to boost their career. They may very quickly ruin their reputation if they do not sort this out quickly.
