Tottenham remain interested in Crvena Zvezda’s top talent Andrija Maksimovic
With the January transfer window fast approaching, Tottenham Hotspur are taking the opportunity to scout potential additions in response to their injury crisis.
The Lilywhites’ injury issues worsened when defensive duo Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven—making their return to the team after a month on the sidelines—were forced off against Chelsea on Sunday. Now, Romero is expected to be unavailable for around six weeks, while Van de Ven has suffered a reoccurrence of his hamstring injury.
The 4-3 defeat to rivals Chelsea left Ange Postecoglou’s side reeling in 11th place in the Premier League table. Improving the squad in the January transfer window has now become imperative after the disappointing opening months of the 2024/25 season.

Tottenham have set their sights on Crvena Zvezda talent Andrija Maksimovic. Having come through the youth ranks of Crvena Zvezda, he is on course to enjoy his breakout campaign in the senior side. The 17-year-old, labelled as ‘Crvena Zvezda’s Messi’, has been turning heads across Europe with his vision, passing accuracy, incisiveness and ability to control games.

Spurs have been among the clubs keeping tabs on the Serbian, hinting at a strong interest in adding the young talent to their ranks. And now they have been given a boost to land the highly regarded prospect next year after his 18th birthday in June.
Marko Marin—technical director of Crvena Zvezda—has said that his club would find it difficult to hold on to Maksimovic for long, thereby, hinting at his potential departure in 2025.
“He is an exceptional talent,” Marin told in an interview with Serbian outlet Informer.
“His football IQ is on a whole other level. Such a player is rarely seen. Unfortunately, I’m sure we won’t be able to hold on for long.”

Maksimovic has established himself as a regular in Crvena Zvezda’s first XI since September. The dynamic midfielder has made 16 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring two goals and registering four assists.
