Tottenham Hotspur are enduring a difficult run given the Lilywhites failure to win any game in the past five fixtures, with their last win coming against Manchester City (FT: 4-0) on 23 November, and the pressure on the North Londoners head coach, Ange Postecoglou, continues to rise with a section of supporters calling for the Australian to be sacked.
And amid all the rising pressure on his shoulders, a few of the decisions that Ange Postecoglou made in Spurs 1-1 draw against Rangers in the midweek have come into question. The one that has taken headlines is the public criticism of Timo Werner, who is a confidence-based player, and those words don’t do any good to the player nor the head coach’s approval ratings.
Ange called into question for Bentancur sub

Now, John Wenham, owner of the reputed podcast Lilywhite Rose, has questioned another ‘bizarre’ decision that the 59-year-old took in the 1-1 draw on Thursday night. He questions the whys behind Uruguay international Rodrigo Bentancur getting hooked (for Pape Sarr) despite enjoying a decent game.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, Wenham said:
“When you take Bentancur off, you’re also bringing on a player who could be saved. I actually thought Bentancur was playing quite well too; at least his passes were accurate. Therefore, I was surprised by that decision; it was a bit bizarre.
“This is a player who isn’t available for selection domestically at the moment. Therefore, he needs the game time wherever he can get it. In addition, he is one of our better players anyway, so for me, he should be playing the full 90 minutes, unless he were to pick up an injury or booking perhaps.”
These decisions, when complemented with the underwhelming performances that Tottenham have been putting in of late, have left a section of the supporters questioning whether the Australian is the right man to lead the club forward, and despite the initial optimism surrounding Ange, the noise for a possible change has been rising every time his side takes the pitch.
