Tottenham Hotspur central defender Radu Dragusin has taken up more of the limelight in the backline given the Lilywhites injury crisis, and this is the first time in his spell at White Hart Lane where the Romanian centre back has had an extensive run in the side.
The 22-year-old has been patiently waiting on the flanks following his highly anticipated move from Genoa in January 2024, with the duo of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven dominating at the heart of defence. However, the aforementioned duo have been a regular presence in the treatment room this season, which has opened up opportunities for one once Bayern Munich-bound defender.
Radu Dragusin steps up amid injury crisis
The former Juventus man now looks a lot more comfortable playing in the deployed high line defence, and Dragusin goes on to admit how it was quite steep to learn the art of playing in such a defensive line.
A lot of Spurs supporters were doubtful whether the 22-year-old is suitable for such a playing style given how he was consistently getting caught off and how he struggled to make quick decisions (something that is needed in the intensity of attack that the former Celtic coach wants from the team); however, to his credit, Dragusin has improved massively and looks a lot more settled.
Now in an interview he goes on to admit that he has evolved as a player since his move to the English top tier, and when asked about playing in Postecoglou’s system, he said (via. Football.London):
“On a personal level, I think I’ve improved a lot. I feel like under him and under the staff, I have evolved as a player, and like you said, the way we defend here, it was really different than the way I defended in the past. But I think it’s a really nice way of playing football and enjoyable.”
This recent stretch of games could mark a turning point in Dragusin’s career at White Hart Lane, potentially solidifying his place as a reliable option in the defensive setup.
