“That is a risk that will need to be taken…” – Podcast host backs risky return for defender amid injury crisis

There is a bit of a problem with injuries at White Hart Lane of late, and Tottenham Hotspur have been looking to conduct an internal investigation of the medical team given all the injuries in the camp; however, that being said, the Lilywhites are now expected to take some risk with veteran defender Ben Davies when it comes to his return.

Three central defensive options in Cristian Romero, Ben Davies, and Micky van de Ven have been serving the sidelines, and that has proven critical for the North Londoners given the lack of depth at White Hart Lane, and there were initial fears that the former two were expected to be out until after the new year; however, Ange gave some positive updates in his presser ahead of the Lilywhites game against Southampton, insisting that the Welshman might be able to return donning the Spurs badge before the conclusion of the year.

Tottenham supporters will be concerned about rushing the 31-year-old given how the first-choice duo of Romero and van de Ven suffered setbacks after being rushed to play against Chelsea last weekend. Though amid concerns about another injury relapse, John Wenham, owner of the Lilywhite Rose podcast, insists that the Australian head coach is left with no choice but to get Davies ready as soon as possible.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, Wenham said:

“We just need players back on the pitch. We’re really struggling at the moment; I don’t know how long Radu Drăgușin and Archie Gray can start together at centre-back. We need players back. Therefore, that probably means Davies will unfortunately be rushed back, and that is a risk that will need to be taken.”

The North Londoners have to get around this situation carefully and ensure they avoid any further injury crisis, especially given the congestion of fixtures in the upcoming couple of months and mounting pressure on head coach Ange Postecoglou.
