Lack of depth has been one of the things that has haunted Ange Postecoglou’s squad in abundance in the ongoing campaign, and Daniel Levy has been looking to cement those cracks to boost the roster at the Australian’s disposal, and Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to bring in a new centre-back alongside a goalkeeper to support Ange Postecoglou’s depth, according to former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson to Football Insider.
With Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have been serving the sidelines on a consistent basis this season, and this shortage in the backline has forced 18-year-old Archie Grey to feature as a makeshift centre-back during the recent fixture against Rangers in the Europa League. And owing to this lack of depth, Ange Postecoglou has been actively asking to bring in a new central defender.
Moving onto the goalkeeping department, with first-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario injured for a long time because of his ankle surgery, a 36-year-old Fraser Forster has to step in, and while the former Southampton goalie has been solid, Spurs need a long-term solution.
Paul Robinson makes transfer claim
And former Lilywhites keeper Robinson insists that his former employers are looking in the market for a new stopper to not only fill in for Vicario’s injury but also provide competition to the Italian. Speaking in an exclusive interview on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 45-year-old said:
“It’ll be a centre-back and a goalkeeper. A new centre-back and a new goalkeeper will be the two areas they look at in January. Fraser Forster has done really well, but I think they need somebody alongside him because behind him they’ve got nothing.”

Spurs have been enduring a difficult campaign, and due to a lack of qualitative depth (because of injuries), there is now a real need for the Lilywhites to boost the squad and go into the second half of the season with some momentum to chase that top four Champions League qualification spot.
