Tottenham forward Richarlison has been linked with a return to Fluminense
It would be fair to acknowledge that the signing of Richarlison hasn’t worked out at all for Tottenham Hotspur.
The South American forward left Everton to join Spurs in a £60m deal during the 2022 summer transfer window. Expectations were high from both fans and pundits alike that he would kick on and take his game to the next level at White Hart Lane. However, it hasn’t panned out that way.
Recurrent injury problems and inconsistent performances have been the story of the 27-year-old’s stay at Tottenham. It has been another difficult season for Richarlison, managing only five Premier League appearances so far as a result of both injuries and competition for places.

None of those appearances have come as starts, and seeing as Dominic Solanke is only nine goals away from the Brazilian’s tally of 16 goals for Spurs – questions are being asked of Richarlison.
He has been linked with a move away from the Hotspur Way ahead of the winter transfer window, with a return to Brazil on the cards. Fluminense are trying to bring Richarlison back to South American football as they look to end his misery at Spurs.
President Mario Bittencourt confirmed in a press conference on Monday that Fluminense have contacted Tottenham to sign Richarlison. He was optimistic that the transfer would end on a positive note, with the North London club responding that they are open to the offer.
“Tottenham responded that they are open to the offer, but that they are not currently interested in getting rid of the player, but they are willing to listen,” Bittencourt was quoted as saying by Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte.
“We are also talking to the player to see if he is interested in returning. What is certain is that we have expressed formal interest in Richarlison.
“We know how difficult it will be to bring him, but we believe that he may want to be close to the Brazilian national team, to return home, to the club where he stood out.
“I have a close relationship with him. We have drawn up an initial document with the English club, without an offer yet, but asking if they would like to negotiate.”
Richarlison has already missed 19 games this season due to persistent fitness issues, the latest being a hamstring injury that has sidelined him since November. Injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar provided an optimistic timeline for the forward’s recovery, predicting a return to training around the New Year and a potential comeback to Ange Postecoglou’s squad by mid-January.

The ex-Everton star’s injury troubles have been a significant blow to our gaffer’s plans this season. As a result, the Hotspur Way chiefs have grown frustrated and want the forward, who is contracted to the club until 2027 (Transfermarkt), off the books next year itself.
