Tottenham host Manchester United in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals on Thursday
Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou was under some pressure heading into Sunday’s Premier League game at Southampton. The North Londoners were five games without a win, so the speculation surrounding the 59-year-old was understandable.
After the 1-1 draw with Rangers at the Ibrox last week where Spurs didn’t play particularly well, Ange Postecoglou wanted a response from his boys at the weekend. And the Greek-born tactician got exactly that as his boys put up a show and smashed Southampton 5-0.
While the results remain topsy-turvy as ever—only Tottenham could thrash Manchester City 4-0 away from home and then fail to win any of the next five matches—Postecoglou has stayed true to his principles and style of play. Several injury problems and failure to get positive results could have prompted Big Ange to change his philosophy, but he didn’t.

The Tottenham gaffer was speaking to the media ahead of the juicy Carabao Cup quarter-final clash against Manchester United on Thursday, Big Ange was asked whether he would alter his philosophy a little bit to advance to the semi-finals and then final, to which our gaffer replied (h/t Football London):
“I want to win and I want to play well, I don’t think that’s anything new. That will be it tomorrow night. We’ll go out there and try and play our football. If we do, we’ll be hard to stop as we have been this year.”
The Greek-Aussie head coach wants to play aggressive, high-intensity and pressing football with loads of movement and flair. He expects his players to maintain possession, create chances, score goals and entertain the fans in every game—a stark contrast to the previous regimes of turgid, lethargic and dull brand of football under Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho.
While the results have been incredibly inconsistent this season, thanks to a large part to the injury problems, no one can say that Tottenham don’t have an identity or a style of play under Postecoglou. Come what may, there is no way our gaffer will park his philosophy to one side to overcome Man United.

Spurs have already beaten the Red Devils this season—a 3-0 success at Old Trafford. However, United under new boss Ruben Amorim, are playing a completely different style and will be confident heading into the game off the back of a 2-1 derby success.
