Tottenham eyeing January move for David Hancko
Tottenham Hotspur’s defensive problems have aggravated over the past few months with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven suffering injuries, and then having fresher setbacks following recoveries from their previous issues. Radu Dragusin and Ben Davies have been partnering together in recent weeks, though the latter is also out now having picked up a knock a couple of games ago.
The Lilywhites are expected to bolster their backline as soon as they possibly can as Ange Postecoglou’s squad is severely understaffed in the role and a potential injury for Dragusin would see them have no fit central defender available. While the team needed some depth at the back anyway, their ongoing problems are compelling them to consider a transfer in January.
According to TEAMtalk, the north Londoners are in the market for Feyenoord defender David Hancko. They have scouted the 27-year-old and are prepared to materialise their interest in him in the winter itself. It is claimed that the Slovakian central defender will be available at a reasonable price in the winter and lower than the £35 million fee that he was tagged with in the summer.
Hancko and Dragusin would be the backup defenders at Tottenham Hotspur, though in the weeks after his potential signing, the Eredivisie star will have regular minutes considering the business end of the campaign will see Spurs endure a packed calendar of fixtures. Moreover, Romero and Van de Ven will be used prudently as a result of their injury record towards the end of 2024.

It remains to be seen if Postecoglou manages to make a welcome addition to his squad despite the club’s interest in Hancko, who is a key part of Feyenoord’s squad and might not be allowed to leave midway through the season. Nevertheless, a centre back’s purchase should be at the top of Daniel Levy’s agenda for 2025 and the sooner he can tick the box, the better.
