Tottenham Hotspur defeat Manchester United 4-3 to advance to the Carabao cup semi-final
Tottenham delivered a near win with a commanding 4-3 triumph over Manchester United, booking their place in the Carabao Cup semi-finals. The result was a timely boost for manager Ange Postecoglou, who faced various criticism following a dip in Tottenham’s recent form. With his position under scrutiny, this victory felt like a crucial turning point.
The Lilywhites looked sharp and focused from the outset, with Dominic Solanke opening the scoring in the 15th minute following a well-worked set-piece. Dejan Kulusevski doubled the lead immediately after the break, while Solanke struck again to put the game beyond doubt. Youngster Archie Gray was a revelation, showcasing maturity beyond his years and earning widespread praise for his energetic display.
Manchester United struggled to match Tottenham’s intensity, despite a flurry of second-half substitutions. Kobbie Mainoo, Joshua Zirkzee, and Amad Diallo were introduced, and their impact was immediate, with United looking revitalised. The trio injected energy and urgency into United’s play, and Diallo led the charge. Moments later, the comeback gained momentum as Diallo pounced on a loose ball and fired home from close range to make it 3-2, reigniting United’s hopes.
The momentum had clearly shifted, with Alejandro Garnacho also entering to add more firepower. Tottenham found themselves under increasing pressure, but Ange’s men remained disciplined. To seal the win, Son, continuing his excellent form, added a fourth from a brilliantly executed set-piece. But, in true Spursy fashion, they conceded a third goal in the dying minutes, leaving fans holding their breath until the final whistle.
For Postecoglou, this result will feel like a statement to the critics. The Australian had previously claimed he often wins trophies in his second season, and with a semi-final spot secured, he may be on course to live up to that statement. Tottenham’s performance showed us struggle, as they dominated both possession and attacks but failed to maintain the same in the second half, a rather much-needed win.
