Liverpool star Caoimhin Kelleher is unlikely to join Tottenham despite interest
Tottenham Hotspur will be expected to sign a goalkeeper sooner or later. Guglielmo Vicario has suffered an injury that will keep him out beyond January, whereas Fraser Forster is 36 years of age and does not have too much in the tank. Moreover, the former Southampton goalkeeper is also not a long-term option for the club.
Spurs were looking at Caoimhin Kelleher in 2023 and could reignite interest in the secondary Liverpool goalkeeper. Though the Irish international is Alisson Becker’s understudy at Anfield, he has been brilliant in the Brazilian’s absence and it is expected that he will depart Anfield following the conclusion of the ongoing season to pursue a regular berth elsewhere.
With that said, Tottenham Hotspur News were told by Paul Robinson that Kelleher is unlikely to join the Lilywhites even if he were to leave Liverpool. The former Leeds and Tottenham shot stopper was quoted saying the following.
“They won’t spend that money because Kelleher wants to go somewhere and be No.1. Vicario is the No.1 at Spurs so they won’t see the need to spend money. Liverpool have made forward plans for the future with Marmadashvilli coming in, which is a clever signing, so Kelleher won’t want to go somewhere and fight for his place.”
Kelleher is a great goalkeeper and it is difficult for him to be at Liverpool beyond 2024/25, especially following Giorgi Mamardashvili’s arrival from Valencia next year. It would be good to see him at Tottenham Hotspur as he is arguably a better option than Guglielmo Vicario too, though it would require a number of things to fall into place for that to happen.

Firstly, Spurs would need to offload the Italian international, a prospect that could be loss-making for them and subsequently, negotiate a deal for Kelleher. That too has no guarantee of being successful as the Liverpool star might be more inclined towards joining a club playing in the Champions League, a possibility that seems distant for the Londoners for the time being.
