“Future’s at stake”- €25m Tottenham target not taking eye off the ball amidst potential 2025 transfer

Tottenham Hotspur have been looking to bring in new recruits in the midfield in the upcoming winter transfer window with Ange Postecoglou‘s side enduring inconsistent performances in the English top tier this season, and they could ponder bringing Johnny Cardoso to White Hart Lane when January comes around.

The pressure on the Australian head coach has continued to mount heavily, with the Lilywhites being far from their top four objectives, and Daniel Levy will try to fill the cracks in his roster to give Spurs a chance at redemption in the second half of the season.

Need for reinforcement in DM role?

The Lilywhites have been keen on signing a new midfielder, and they could add a DM despite Ange having decent options in Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr, with the former Celtic manager only using the former in the position.

And one of the players being subject to links with a move to Tottenham is Real Betis’ Johnny Cardoso, a player on whom the Lilywhites already hold an advantage. The North Londoners secured a ‘win-win’ option to land Cardoso for €25 million when they sold Giovani Lo Celso to the Spanish giants last summer.

For the North Londoners, signing Johnny Cardoso could be a much-needed boost to the options in midfield, as it would not only add depth but also some dynamism in options at Ange Postecoglou’s disposal. And while there are Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr in the DM role, there has been inconsistency in their performances, which could be why the Lilywhites want to sign the USMNT player in the winter.

Cardoso speaks on Tottenham links

However, Cardoso has denied any rumours of a winter move linking him away from Betis. In an interview with Estadio Deportivo, the player was quizzed about a potential link to Tottenham, where he said:

“I don’t think about my future at all, because my future is at stake now. I am very happy here at Betis and I want to continue here, playing and helping the team in everything I can.”
