Tottenham’s prodigious academy talent Mikey Moore has been out with illness since the start of November
Heading into Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League home game against league leader Liverpool on Sunday, Ange Postecoglou must be in high spirits.
Spurs ended their five-game barren run without a win last weekend by hammering basement club Southampton 5-0 at the St Mary’s Stadium. They followed it up by beating Manchester United 4-3 in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals at home on Thursday night, thereby, gaining some much-needed momentum ahead of a hectic schedule.
Ahead of the much-awaited contest against Liverpool, Ange Postecoglou had his say on multiple topics. He gave an update on several players missing due to injuries and illnesses in recent times. The Spurs gaffer had his say on Mikey Moore by stating that the youngster is still a couple of weeks away from returning to the squad.

“We need to get a couple of weeks training into him [Moore] and get him up to speed,” Ange Postecoglou said in his pre-match press conference (h/t Football London).
John Wenham—the owner of the famous Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose—has sympathized with Mikey Moore after all the football he has missed for over a month now.
“We desperately need players back who are able to contribute,” John Wenham exclusively told Tottenham News.
“The fact that Moore has already started a Premier League game this season tells me that he has the trust of Postecoglou. Therefore, it is a real shame that this has happened to him.
“He likely would have played a lot of football over the past month. However, it is great that he is at least back in training.”
Mikey Moore is arguably the brightest talent produced by the Tottenham academy perhaps since Harry Kane. Due to injuries to several first-team forwards, the teenage prodigy was starting to get opportunities this season. He was making an impact in games too, but unfortunately, the winger has been sidelined with a virus since the start of November.

The Englishman has made nine appearances across all competitions so far this season, with his last outing coming in the 2-1 win over Manchester City in the Carabao Cup round of 16. The bad virus has hugely impacted the young Moore, and going by Big Ange’s latest admission, we will not see him play again in 2024.

So, this is a frustrating blow at a crucial time for the highly-rated talent’s development. Indeed, Spurs’ fixture list is packed over the next few weeks. With Richarlison and Wilson Odobert on the sidelines, Moore would have seen the upcoming fixtures as the ideal opportunity to get consistent minutes under his belt.

However, he will require at least a couple of weeks to get back to speed after being hit severely by the virus. The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium faithful are desperate for Moore to return and produce exciting performances.
