Tottenham make PL star their priority for next summer

Cunha’s signing the priority for Tottenham next year

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to be a busy side in the summer next year as a lot of deadweight could be cleared out and be replaced with more capable players. Among the attackers, Timo Werner’s loan is highly unlikely to be made into a permanent switch whereas Richarlison could also be shown the door if his injury problems continue to be a consistent headache.

Ange Postecoglou, or possibly his successor at Tottenham subject to results, would massively benefit from a versatile offensive name. With that in mind, it has been reported by ESPN that the Lilywhites are expected to prioritise on Matheus Cunha’s signing from Wolverhampton Wanderers over that of Jonathan David from Lille.

Matheus Cunha has an asking price of £60 million and is even on Manchester United’s radar, but offers a better rounded profile than David given that he is capable of playing on the right and left wing as well. He has played a talismanic role for Wolves this season but if they are relegated, his price tag could drop next summer as they could face an exodus of quality first-team players.

That being said, it is hard to see Tottenham holding the upper hand over Manchester United a possible race for Cunha. The Brazilian is likely to be enticed by a swoop to Old Trafford as the Red Devils are admittedly a far bigger club by stature, can offer him a chance to win silverware and very crucially, match his lofty wage demands too, especially if Marcus Rashford finds a new employer.

From Spurs’ point of view, it would be a step in the wrong direction if they are to break ties with Jonathan David’s entourage. The Canadian international is also a fine forward and has shown his true pedigree this season by being dominant in the Champions League too. On a free move, he would be a brilliant signing too.

It remains to be seen which player Spurs end up signing ahead of 2025/26, though it is absolutely clear that they are lacking in quality in the final third this time out and need an injection of a fresh face or two sooner rather than later.
