Tottenham keeping tabs on Club Atletico Lanus starlet Julio Soler ahead of the winter transfer window

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to be in the market for defensive reinforcements when the transfer window reopens in January.

Spurs decided against signing a central defender in the summer transfer window, focusing on acquiring midfield and attacking talents. This has come back to bite them as Ange Postecoglou has struggled to cope without the injury absences of Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero. Ben Davies has also been sidelined due to a hamstring injury of late.

With so many games to cover in the second half of the season, Spurs need at least two players in every position to be available. In addition to a centre-back, they could do with a new left-back.

Destiny Udogie has not managed to match his debut season’s standards at the club. The young Italian has also looked leggy in recent games, and after being forced off with a slight problem at Southampton last weekend, he sat out the Carabao Cup tie with Manchester United. Thus, it is imperative the club brings in a left-back in January.

According to an exclusive report from TBR Football, Tottenham are among a host of clubs to have scouted Club Atletico Lanus left-back Julio Soler in recent months. The likes of Arsenal and Manchester City are also keeping tabs on him, but Bournemouth have made their move to sign the young left-back.

Born in Paraguay, Julio Soler represented Argentina in the 2024 Summer Olympics and is already firmly in the plans for their first team. He has made a total of 58 appearances for Club Atletico Lanus, registering two assists.

The left-footed flyer has become a hugely coveted commodity ahead of the January transfer window, with the aforementioned report adding that Lanus are looking at around £15million – including add-ons—to sell him.

For Tottenham, they must show urgency to sign Soler and address one of their glaring problems in defence. And his £15million price tag will be a cost-effective solution when January comes around. The Paraguayan-born Argentinean international will be a good option to cover and compete with Udogie under the watchful eyes of Postecoglou.

Players usually take time to adapt to the demands of Premier League football after coming from a different continent, and the young Soler could be no different. As Bournemouth have made their move to sign him, Spurs must up their ante if they are to beat their Premier League rivals for the teenager’s signature next month.
