Tottenham handed a big injury boost as Ben Davies has returned to training
Tottenham Hotspur have endured an up-and-down 2024/25 season, failing to build on Ange Postecoglou’s strong first season in North London.
Spurs were gaining momentum with wins over Southampton (Premier League) and Manchester United (Carabao Cup) before they locked horns with Liverpool last weekend. The Reds showed them no mercy, hammering six goals past goalkeeper Fraser Forster to pull the hosts back to earth.
One cannot deny that injuries to several players have been one of the mitigating factors behind the North London outfit’s underwhelming displays. Ange Postecoglou has been dealing with an unprecedented injury crisis at White Hart Lane, and at this moment, Radu Dragusin is the only fit centre-back available at his disposal.

The Lilywhites have lost Micky van de Ven to another hamstring injury and his centre-back partner Cristian Romero to a new quad problem. Without his first-choice centre-back duo, along with No.1 Guglielmo Vicario, who is ruled out for months following ankle surgery, Spurs have been leaking goals at an alarming rate.
However, things may just be easing up on the injury front for Tottenham. Facing the media ahead of Spurs’ trip to high-flying Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day, Postecoglou gave a positive injury update on Ben Davies. He revealed the versatile defender is back in training and could be available for Sunday’s game against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
“Yeah, he’s [Davies’] training,” Postecoglou stated in his presser. (h/t Football London)
“Will train today [Christmas Eve] and just can’t risk anymore injuries so my gut tells me that’s only two sessions with the team before Boxing Day, so probably wiser to save him for the weekend. But the plan is to have him training and potentially be available.”

Ben Davies picked up a hamstring injury in the second half of Spurs’ 1-0 away defeat to Bournemouth at the start of December. As a result, he has had to miss games against Chelsea, Rangers, Southampton, Manchester United and Liverpool. The 31-year-old will also sit out of the trip to Nottingham Forest.

The Welshman potentially regaining full fitness before Sunday’s game against Wolves will be a big boost, considering Big Ange is down to bare bones as far as centre-back options are concerned. With both Romero and Van de Ven out, Dragusin is expected to partner Archie Gray in central defence against Forest on Thursday.

Davies has shown reliability with his availability this season, providing valuable backup until this ill-time injury. For now, it is crucial the experienced defender is given time to heal fully from his hamstring problem.
