Borussia Dortmund talent Jamie Gittens is on the radar of Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur are going through an incredibly frustrating period with injuries, and it doesn’t seem to ease up soon.
As far as the attacking department goes, every single player has spent time on the sidelines—either due to injury or illness. Wilson Odobert and Richarlison are amongst the worst affected players. The duo have been sidelined for months now, with Odobert not expected back until February following hamstring surgery. Richarlison’s future at the club is also uncertain amid links with a return to Brazil.
Son Heung-min has also had his fair share of injury problems, while Timo Werner has missed a few games due to illness. With that said, the Hotspur Way chiefs have not ruled out investing in a fresh wide attacker in the January transfer window.
Tottenham have been weighing up a January swoop for Borussia Dortmund starlet Jamie Gittens, who is enjoying a fantastic season. The 20-year-old has emerged as a key player for Borussia Dortmund in the first half of the campaign, contributing nine goals and five assists in 23 appearances across all competitions.

Now regarded by many as one of the best young attacking talents in Europe, with the Englishman international consistently making a difference in the final third for Yellow and Black, Borussia Dortmund are wary about the growing interest in him. Spurs have been tracking the explosive left-winger’s progress as they contemplate a move for him in January.
However, the Bundesliga club managing director Lars Ricken has now sent a clear message to interested clubs including Spurs eyeing a move for Jamie Gittens.
Speaking in an interview with the German publication Sport Bild, Ricken was asked what he would do if Dortmund received an offer of £40m for their special talent in the forthcoming winter transfer window. He told:
“I wouldn’t hang up immediately because that would not be in keeping with my character. But I would politely decline.
“We are in a challenging situation and want to develop further in terms of sport. In principle, we want to keep players of such high quality for longer. This also applies to Jamie, who has a long-term contract.”
Dortmund has had a clear recruitment and transfer model over the years; they sign young and hungry talents from different parts of the world, develop them and sell them for a big profit. They will eventually follow the same trend with Gittens, whose sparkling form in Germany have caught the attention of several European bigwigs.

Gittens has the qualities to thrive in Postecoglou’s attacking and pressing style of football at Spurs. He is explosive, agile, creative and dynamic, which could make him a strong potential replacement for the ageing Son Heung-min.

However, with the England Under-21 international contracted to Dortmund until June 2028 (Transfermarkt), Spurs would certainly be required to break the bank to sign him. Going by Dortmund managing director’s recent revelation on Gittens, a January transfer doesn’t look on the cards.
