Tottenham defender Radu Dragusin continues to be linked with an exit
Tottenham Hotspur have not performed as per expectations of the fans this season and currently lie 12th in the Premier League table.
Ange Postecoglou’s position at Spurs has been under severe scrutiny in recent weeks. A 6-3 defeat to Liverpool at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium followed by a Boxing Day loss at Nottingham Forest has left the Greek-Australian tactician with a lot of questions to answer.
Spurs are incredibly understaffed due to injury issues, with Ange Postecoglou set to potentially enter the weekend’s game against Wolverhampton Wanderers with no fit centre-halves. Radu Dragusin suffered an ankle problem in the closing stages of the defeat to Nottingham Forest, meaning the 59-year-old will need to be creative in selecting his back four on Sunday.
Injuries to Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Ben Davies has seen Radu Dragusin enjoy a long run in Postecoglou’s first XI for over a month now. While the Romanian centre-half has had decent games, there have been times when his positioning and reading of the games have attracted criticism from certain pundits.
Now, ex-Spurs scout Bryan King thinks Dragusin will leave the club at the end of the season. He claims that the 22-year-old is suited to playing in Serie A than competing in the fast-paced Premier League football.
“They can’t cash in on him at the moment,” Bryan King exclusively told Tottenham News.
“They’ve got their two main defenders out. Therefore, I can’t see him leaving until the end of the season. However, this seems to be an agent who knows that the writing is on the wall. Life does seem to be easier in Italy than it is in the Premier League.
“He has only just joined the football club, whether it was a mistake to sign him, that is still under scrutiny. For me, when you lose those two main centre-backs, he is not your immediate answer. However, they’re going to have to stick with him until the end of the season.”

Truly, Dragusin hasn’t set the Premier League alight since arriving from Genoa back in January. He had to wait patiently for his opportunities to impress Big Ange as he is behind Spurs’ first-choice centre-backs Romero and Van de Ven. Now that he has been getting regular game time, the Romanian international hasn’t really grabbed them with both hands.

However, it is too harsh to be critical of Dragusin’s performances as he has not managed to play alongside a natural centre-back, with Archie Gray being his partner in recent games. Although he continues to be linked with a move back to Italy, we don’t think Tottenham will give up on him after one full season in North London.
