Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven expected to return in mid-January
Tottenham Hotspur, in recent fixtures, have faced the daunting prospect of having up to ten players sidelined due to injuries, illness, or suspensions.
Unfortunately, after the recent 2-2 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers, the situation took another turn for the worse as Rodrigo Bentancur found himself joining the suspended ranks following his fifth yellow card of the season in stoppage time and Destiny Udogie entering the treatment room after pulling up his hamstring.
Bentancur and Udogie both will miss Spurs’ next Premier League game against Newcastle United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday, as Ange Postecoglou’s plight continues with a more depleted squad. Amid the injury crisis, Tottenham fans have now got a positive injury update on one of their star players.
-> Tottenham Hotspur star ruled out for two-three weeks due to injury
Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge claims Micky van de Ven will return from injury “in a couple of weeks”. He shared a picture of himself with the Spurs defender at the World Darts Championship via his official X account on Monday.
Micky van de Ven has had another disruptive season in North London. He has been very unfortunate with back-to-back hamstring problems. The Dutchman made a surprise return from injury in the 4-3 defeat to Chelsea earlier in December, only to suffer a setback in the second half. He was forced off the pitch with a recurrence of his hamstring issue, ruling him out for the remainder of 2024.
The 23-year-old missed two months of the 2023-24 campaign due to a hamstring injury. He has featured only in nine Premier League games this season and missed 17 fixtures already. This must be frustrating for Van de Ven who is blessed with a great turn of pace and tank. Recurrent hamstring problems will likely affect his pace—one of his strengths—something which the defender will want to avoid.

Van de Ven will hope to enjoy a healthy 2025. With him in the XI, Postecoglou’s side are a stronger unit defensively. Big Ange and our club’s medical department have to be very cautious when managing the Netherlands international’s fitness and must ease him back into action.
