Tottenham hold talks with Crystal Palace left-back Tyrick Mitchell

Crystal Palace left-back Tyrick Mitchell has been linked with a move to Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur have not been good enough in the first half of the 2024/25 campaign amid an injury crisis.

Ange Postecoglou’s team have been extremely unfortunate with injuries and this has played a big part in such wretched form. In the 2-2 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Spurs were missing Guglielmo Vicario, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Ben Davies, Djed Spence, Richarlison, Mikey Moore and Wilson Odobert. And their injury worries were compounded further when Destiny Udogie suffered a hamstring injury against Wolves.

The Tottenham boss did bring on Sergio Reguilon as Udogie’s replacement for only his first game of the Premier League season. As Reguilon is out of contract at the end of the season and increasingly likely to leave White Hart Lane, the Lilywhites have to sign a left-back in the January transfer window.

Tottenham have been subject to links with Crystal Palace left-back Tyrick Mitchell in recent weeks. Now, according to an exclusive report from CaughtOffside, Spurs have held talks with Tyrick Mitchell ahead of a potential swoop in 2025. However, bitter rivals Arsenal have also been in contact with the left-back’s entourage.

Mitchell has been a mainstay in the Crystal Palace backline in recent years, racking up 167 appearances across all competitions. The two-cap England international is an attacking and dynamic left-back, as evidenced by his three goals and 11 assists so far in his Palace career. He has been catching the eye with not only his attacking contributions but also his solid defensive performances under Oliver Glasner, which makes him an enticing option for Tottenham.

The Postecoglou-managed club’s bid to bring Mitchell across the capital to White Hart Lane won’t be easy, as the likes of Arsenal, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and AC Milan are all vying for his signature. He will be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs in January given his contract at Selhurst Park expires in June 2025 (Transfermarkt).

The aforementioned report adds Palace are trying to tie their star defender down to an extension, but Mitchell is not ready to commit his long-term future to the club as he plans to take the next steps in his career.

As Spurs have lost Udogie to a hamstring problem for the foreseeable future, we expect Daniel Levy to sign a left-back. And Mitchell would be a solid, dynamic addition to their defensive roster in a cut-price deal in January—someone capable of challenging Udogie for a spot in the starting XI when he recovers from injury.
