Tottenham are considering a move for AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori
Tottenham Hotspur are weighing up a move for AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori, as Ange Postecoglou looks to fix his team’s defensive frailties.
The North Londoners have run into a defensive injury crisis this season, with Ange Postecoglou’s preferred first-choice centre-back duo, Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, spending a substantial amount of time on the sidelines. Ben Davies has also dealt with fitness issues, leading to teenager Archie Gray moving into central defence to partner Radu Dragusin.
The chiefs at the Hotspur Way must take advantage of the winter window to help the Australian tactician get Spurs’ season back on track after slipping down to 11th place in the Premier League table. Postecoglou’s men have conceded 28 goals in 19 Premier League fixtures, and Romero, Van de Ven and Davies’ absences have massively hurt the Lilywhites.

Thus, Tottenham have prioritised signing a central defender this month with Fikayo Tomori emerging as a target. The English centre-back was performing extremely well at AC Milan before this season when he lost his place under Paulo Fonseca. He has clocked only 553 minutes across nine Serie A appearances thus far.
However, transfer news king Fabrizio Romano feels Sergio Conceicao replacing Paulo Fonseca as the new Milan boss may have just changed Tomori’s situation at San Siro. Writing in his exclusive GIVEMESPORT newsletter when asked if Tomori could join Tottenham this month, Romano said:
“No news on this so far. Tomori’s future depends on Sergio Conceicao now, as he was not a key player under former manager Paulo Fonseca. Let’s see what Milan decide to do now with their new manager.”

The England international was understood to be considering his future at Milan after being fed up with the lack of opportunities under former boss Fonseca, who was sacked seven months into his tenure following a poor start to the season. The arrival of Conceicao may have just changed the centre-back’s landscape, potentially breathing life back into his Rossoneri career.

This should come as a blow for Tottenham, who are hunting for defensive reinforcements after injuries to Van de Ven, Romero, Davies and Udogie have stretched Big Ange’s squad. Now as Tomori’s future at San Siro hangs in balance, it would be wise for the Spurs chiefs to look elsewhere in order to boost a threadbare squad for Big Ange.
A couple of additions at the back are desperately needed as things stand.
