AC Milan considering 'dream' Dejan Kulusevski signing from Tottenham Hotspur.

Fraser Foster names Dejan Kulusevski as Tottenham Hotspur’s standout player this season

Tottenham Hotspur’s season has been one to forget so far. Their 11th rank in the Premier League standings halfway into the season is evident of how poor they have been in the English top flight and while they remain alive in the Carabao Cup, Europa League as well as the FA Cup, Ange Postecoglou’s injury problems have given him a constant headache besides the unsatisfactory results.

Son Heung-min, arguably the best Tottenham player and their captain on paper, has struggled for form this season and is showing signs of catching up with age. His fitness record has also been a bit dicey and as a result, a number of fans and pundits have been left unhappy with Spurs’ output down the left wing.

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou talks about Dejan Kulusevski and his pep talk in the Sweden camp

One player who has stood out, however, is Dejan Kulusevski. The Swedish international is having a superb individual campaign and is one of the main reasons why Tottenham are not worse off than they already are in the Premier League. Ben Foster, a former Premier League goalkeeper, endorsed the thought of most Tottenham fans as he said the following (h/t TBR Football).

“[Dejan] Kulusevski is the man, he’s incredible. I think you’re kind of seeing the real Kulusevski now. When he first signed, he was phenomenal, a lot of injuries, it’s held him back but now you’re seeing Kulusevski, he’s been without a doubt their best player of the season so far.”

There was always little to doubt about Kulusevski’s qualities with Cristiano Ronaldo also labelling him as a ‘great talent’ during their time together at Juventus. And while last season he remained a brilliant player, it is in 2024/25 that he has been truly unleashed, very possibly due to Ange Postecoglou using him as a midfielder as opposed to a right winger.

In a position in the engine room, Kulusevski is the epitome of a work-horse and is able to contribute to good effect on both ends of the pitch. He does a huge amount of work in defence when Tottenham are without the ball whilst also remaining one of their most potent sources of offensive goods when in possession and charging forward.

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

Much of the credit for Kulusevski’s form goes to Postecoglou, besides obviously the player. AC Milan have already taken note of his form and qualities, and it will be interesting to see just how much longer Tottenham can keep him away from Europe’s bigger boys.
