Tottenham Hotspur defender Radu Dragusin had been in the limelight for all the noise about not getting consistent minutes following his move to White Hart Lane, although the Romanian defender found himself right in the thick of things in the ongoing 2024/25 campaign.
There have been plenty of injuries at Hotspur Way, especially at the back this season, and that has forced Ange Postecoglou’s hand into playing the former Genoa centre-back.
Dragusin struggles vs Newcastle
While Dragusin has been a hit-and-miss so far, his performance against Newcastle United earlier today showed how, despite all the potential, he still has a lot to develop. The 22-year-old had a rough game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as the high-pressing Toons got the better of the under-pressure defender, who made multiple mistakes in the game.
And former Premier League defender Curtis Davies called out the Romanian for his defensive lapse in the Lilywhites 2-1 defeat to Newcastle in the English top tier. Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live (via. BBC), Davies said:
“Tottenham can consider themselves lucky with the score after the openings that Newcastle have had. Radu Dragusin is having a sticky time. He is meant to be a leader, but he has played two balls out of play and played one ball straight to Alexander Isak. When Dragusin gets on the ball, the fans are very nervous.”
The North Londoners, jointly and severally for Dragusin, cannot afford to have more performances like the one against Eddie Howe’s side, especially if the Lilywhites want to challenge for higher positions. Dragusin will need to prove himself more consistently if he’s to secure a long-term role at the heart of defence under Postecoglou.
