Postecoglou lauds Tottenham players despite being beaten by Newcastle

Postecoglou expresses pride at his players

Tottenham Hotspur suffered their 10th defeat of the Premier League season after throwing away a 1-0 lead to lose 2-1 against Newcastle United on matchday 20. The result means they have lost half of the games they have played in the English top flight, which is a rather concerning outcome given that they were contending for a berth in the top four.

Ange Postecoglou was quizzed by the media about his thoughts on the result and the work his players put in. The Australian had the following to say, according to journalist Dominic Scurr.

Hugely proud of the lads. Our football was outstanding against a very good opponent who are in a good place. It’s a game we deserved to win and we should have won.”

It’s for the second time this season that Newcastle United have had Tottenham Hotspur’s number as far as results are concerned, but it is hard to argue with Postecoglou when he says that his players gave it their all. There is a visible amount of fatigue that has crept into an overworked bunch of players, which has been telling its tale for the last few weeks.

To say that Tottenham deserved to win is a bit exaggerated though as the team was far from compact at the back and did not do much in the offensive third.

Meanwhile, the manager’s words could also be interpreted as a way of hinting to the board that signings are a must if the mutually desired results are to be achieved by the end of the campaign.
