Levy advised against Postecoglou’s sacking

With every passing winless result, Ange Postecoglou’s sacking as the Tottenham Hotspur boss is becoming a topic that is gaining traction. The team fell to Newcastle United on home soil on matchday 20 of the Premier League, thus dropping all three points for the 10th time this season, whilst only winning 35% of their matches until the ongoing point of the campaign (7).

Tottenham Hotspur star Rodrigo Bentancur is suspended for the Newcastle United clash.

If other results don’t go the way Tottenham need them to, they could find themselves placed 15th at the end of the matchday. Postecoglou’s saving grace so far has only been the team’s comfortable position in the Europa League as well as qualification into the final four of the Carabao Cup, the first leg of which awaits the team next.

National World pundit James Trebath believes that Tottenham would be mistaken to part company with Postecoglou as he had the following to say to London World.

“Well, I think if we sort of take a step back and we look at where we are in terms of the season, we’re top, albeit top of the bottom half just, so we’re not a million miles off in terms of the league. We’re lightyears away obviously at the moment from being in the top two or three but actually we get a few players back, we put a run together, we get support from the board in the transfer window which is another matter and we get players in quickly, things could turn.”

“I don’t know if you remember at the start of the season I did always say things would be a slow burn this year, I did think we’d be better in the second half of the season. We’re in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup of course, albeit a very, very tough game against Liverpool to come and that’s going to be a really tough game and a tough ask with the squad depth that we have at the moment and we’re in a decent position in Europe so I think that’s probably the sort of saving graces at the moment and I think the other thing is the lack of available alternatives.”

Tottenham’s fanbase seems to be at crossroads regarding the hard call on Postecoglou’s future but there is bound to be an increasing sense of insecurity within the coaching staff, especially if Liverpool prematurely end their Carabao Cup campaign. The Europa League, as its current form stands, is not a competition Spurs are likely to go all the way in, either.

A parting of ways between the club and the manager seems like an imminent outcome at this point but once more, it is the board’s failures that have been projected on the manager. It remains to be seen when Daniel Levy will speak up regarding the rumours swirling around Postecoglou’s future, if at all.
