Tottenham have scouted Feyenoord star Igor Paixao several times this season
Tottenham Hotspur have lost more games than they have won in the Premier League this season and are currently 12th in the table. That is simply not good enough for a club that spent millions on new faces in the summer transfer window.
Ange Postecoglou’s side were beaten 2-1 by Newcastle United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last weekend, which was their 10th defeat in 20 Premier League games. Injuries have been a mitigating factor, but the North Londoners should still be doing much better.
They have started the January transfer window well by completing the signing of highly-rated goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague, addressing a glaring problem in the Australian tactician’s squad. In addition, reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed last month that Spurs would try to reinforce the attacking unit owing to Richarlison’s injury problems and Timo Werner’s hugely inconsistent displays.

Tottenham certainly need to address a couple of areas in the winter transfer window and the forward department is one of those. Now, according to a report from CaughtOffside, Spurs scouts have been impressed by Feyenoord winger Igor Paixao in recent times. The 24-year-old has also been tracked by Liverpool, Arsenal, Aston Villa, West Ham United and AS Roma.
Igor Paixao—a left-sided winger by trade, was sensational for Feyenoord last season, registering 12 goals and four assists in 45 appearances. The Brazilian has continued to produce the goods this campaign as well with five goals and 13 assists in 24 games across all competitions already. He has operated across the front line, playing a key role in Feyenoord’s challenge for a spot in Europe.
While Paixao is a key player for manager Brian Priske, the aforementioned report adds the Eredivisie outfit are ready to listen to offers for him at around €30-35m during this ongoing January transfer window.

As for Spurs, Big Ange could do with a player of Paixao’s quality, dynamism, versatility and creativity. The South American can be a real handful in the final third with his dribbling ability and elusive movement, and at 24, he could potentially replace club captain Son Heung-min. The forward is at the right age to consider a new challenge after spending two-and-a-half years in the Eredivisie, and a move to Tottenham would represent that.

The North London outfit, however, will be required to fight off competition from a host of clubs including our Premier League rivals. And if we can do that and land Paixao in the ballpark of €30-35m, it would signify a bargain.
