Tottenham Hotspur backed to carry out a grand squad rebuild in 2025

Tottenham expected to be spend lavishly on transfers in 2025

Tottenham Hotspur are going through one of their worst Premier League seasons in recent times as they find themselves rooted in the bottom half of the standings. Though they are in a decent position in the Europa League, it is hard to see them winning the competition while their next test in the Carabao Cup against Liverpool could be their killer on the domestic stage too.

And while their FA Cup campaign is yet to get underway, it is very difficult to think that Tottenham would even be a favourite to win it. All in all, this could very possibly be Ange Postecoglou’s last season at the club and there is arguably a need for change in several departments at Tottenham, not least in defence and offence as the midfield has a reasonable amount of quality.

RC Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov is attracting interest from Tottenham.

The Standard’s football finances expert Kieran Maguire has backed Tottenham to be among the Premier League’s biggest spenders in 2025 as he believes their monetary balances are in a ‘fantastic position’. To his credit, Daniel Levy has ensured that the club is not left in as precarious a position financially as he has left them on the pitch, but it is high time that there are investments in the squad.

A central defender’s signing looks inevitable, preferably in January. The team has only three natural central defenders, a number that’s not ideal given the busy calendar of fixtures. In addition to that, a left back’s arrival also seems imminent considering Destiny Udogie has no natural back-up given that Ben Davies has also played in the heart of the backline lately.

In offence, every single player apart from Brennan Johnson and Dominic Solanke has been below average, so Tottenham’s biggest spending could possibly come in their final third. They need a couple of left wingers with Son Heung-min also on his last legs, at least on the top level, whilst a right winger’s purchase would also be a good enough addition to compete with Johnson.

A good number of player exits could also take place with Richarlison being amongst those most heavily linked with an exit. It will be interesting to see what signings the board ends up making but it is fairly evident that they require an injection of fresh, fit and above all, more ambitious players.
