David Ornstein provides promising update on Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham future

David Ornstein reveals Ange Postecoglou’s job is safe at Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou revealed some weeks ago that the club will look for transfer opportunities in the ongoing window owing to several injury setbacks. That being said, the team’s poor form raised concerns about the Australian’s continuity at the helm and how much exactly he would be able to determine as far as the squad rebuilding project is concerned.

Admittedly, Spurs are in one of their worst runs of form in recent memory, not least in the Premier League where they have lost 10 times in 20 attempts this season and are rooted in the bottom half of the table. Their next few fixtures don’t seem to get any easier with a Carabao Cup game against Liverpool set to be followed up with a Premier League derby against Arsenal next week.

While many anticipate the upcoming weeks to spell an inevitable end for Postecoglou at Tottenham, football insider David Ornstein believes otherwise as TBR Football quoted him saying the following on Big Ange’s future.

“Ange Postecoglou is 100% safe in his job I’m told, there is no uncertainty over his future despite the pressure he appears to be feeling in some of his public comments – they’re backing him to lead this project forward and they will hope that he delivers. They’ve got a chance of a League Cup trophy, a Europa League trophy – they’re focusing on that, and they’re also fighting to get into the top four, although they’re realistic about their chances on that too.”

More than anything else, it is Postecoglou’s defiant nature about winning trophies in his second campaigns at various clubs that has been perceived as being overconfident. The former Celtic boss stated facts, however, and it still remains on Tottenham Hotspur’s cards that they end the 2024/25 season with a trophy, in which case Postecoglou would entire their folklore.

A top-four berth in the Premier League seems unachievable in all honesty but there is a big chance that Tottenham can win the Europa League having already cleared the league phase, possibly as a top 8 side subject to results in the next two matchdays. While surprises can be sprung in the knockout competitions, including the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, the team must be optimistic that they can defy those odds – exactly the way Postecoglou is.

It still goes without having to say that the squad needs a major rebuild and the onus is on the board to provide Postecoglou with what he needs, though in saying that, it must also be noted that the manager is unlikely to be given a much longer rope once his key players start returning from injury – a prospect that should ideally occur within the next three or four weeks.
