Tottenham Hotspur have been subject to aggressive links with a move for Paris Saint-Germain striker Randal Kolo Muani as the North Londoners look to bring in a new attacker to complement Dominic Solanke at White Hart Lane.
While the Lilywhites have been linked with a move for multiple centre forwards in the past months, their resolve to land the Frenchman is shown as club chairman Daniel Levy, alongside director of football Johan Lange, reportedly flew to Paris to try and negotiate a deal to bring the 26-year-old to Hotspur Way.
Florian Plettenberg update on potential transfer
Now reputed Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg gives a boost to Spurs pursuit of the former Frankfurt striker, claiming that Muani would be allowed to leave Paris Saint-Germain amid interest from the Lilywhites. Writing on his X account (formerly Twitter) last night (7 January 2025), he insists that former Barcelona manager, who is in charge at Parc de Princes at the moment, Luis Enrique, has granted the player permission to leave in the ongoing winter transfer window.
Plettenberg noted:
“Luis Enrique has given Randal Kolo Muani permission to leave #PSG in the winter transfer window.
However, Paris Saint-Germain continues to insist that it must be a loan with an obligation to buy, as a permanent transfer is currently unrealistic.
Tottenham are pushing for him. #MUFC, Aston Villa, and Juventus are all involved. Chelsea are also interested. #CFC
Monaco is currently out of the race.”
Tottenham aren’t alone but Randal Kolo Muani just makes sense
However, Tottenham aren’t alone in the pursuit of the French international’s signature, with Unai Emery pushing his Aston Villa right among the options to land the 26-year-old with a potential swap deal involving Jhon Duran among conversations.
It is to be seen how the rumours will progress hereon, but the North Londoners have an opportunity to land a player that can single-handedly change their fortunes with the amount of goals he brings, and the fact that he likes to operate with runs between the lines makes him perfect for the all-out attacking vertical style of play that Ange Postecoglou has deployed at N17.
He complements Solanke as well…
Moreover, for Tottenham, getting their hands on Randal Kolo Muani would be a huge step in strengthening the attacking setup at Hotspur Way and showing that they are serious to back Ange Postecoglou despite the pressure on the Australian head coach.
The Frenchman’s game is all about pace, precision, and clever movement, which fits perfectly into Postecoglou’s high-intensity, forward-thinking philosophy. Adding Kolo Muani to the team would not only relieve pressure on Dominic Solanke but also bring a fresh, versatile option who can lead the line or operate as a second striker.
At a time when the club is pushing to regain its stature domestically and in Europe, a player of Kolo Muani’s calibre could be the missing piece to unlock their full attacking potential.
And for Tottenham fans, they will surely be optimistic to see Daniel Levy and Johan Lange close this deal and bring in another world-class talent to Hotspur Way.
