Journalist insists Tottenham are looking at Liverpool & United full-back target

published :

Tottenham Hotspur are desperate to bring in defensive reinforcements in the ongoing January transfer window, with Ange Postecoglou‘s side having been plagued with injuries at the back, leaving the Australian head coach scraping for options.

The North Londoners first-choice duo, Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, have been struggling with injuries all season, which has left the Lilywhites thin at centre-back, and adding to their woes, left-back Destiny Udogie is also suffering from consistent injury problems, forcing makeshift solutions such as deploying Djed Spence in an unfamiliar role during Spurs last weekend’s game against Newcastle and in yesterday’s win over Liverpool.

Fortunately, the ongoing winter transfer window offers Spurs an opportunity to bring in reinforcements, and according to journalist Ben Jacobs, one player on Spurs’ radar is Bournemouth’s highly regarded left-back Milos Kerkez.

Kerkez has been impressive for the Cherries in the ongoing campaign, and this has caught the attention of several elite Premier League sides, including Liverpool. However, the race for his signature is competitive, with Manchester United reportedly leading the chase for his signature. Meanwhile, Bournemouth do not want to sell the Hungarian international this winter; however, a summer move could not be ruled out.

Despite his potential, Tottenham are weighing their options carefully as Udogie is a highly regarded figure in Postecoglou’s dressing room and is seen as a future star at N17. Meanwhile, Manchester Reds are also looking at PSG’s Nuno Mendes, which could further change the dynamics to sign Kerkez (in Tottenham’s favour).

Speaking on the Last Word on Spurs Podcast, Ben said:

“And Tottenham are there for Milos Kerkez, for example, along with Manchester United, who are probably the front-runners at this stage. I don’t think Bournemouth will sell in January. They want 40 plus million. But in the summer, Kerkez has got a new agent. So let’s wait and see. And you never know, Manchester United might get PSG’s Nuno Mendes, who Ruben Amorim gave his debut to at Sporting.

“And then that will be their left back covered. And then Kerkez may be available in the market to a slightly smaller pool of Premier League clubs, and the player would prefer to stay in England. So Tottenham could be there as far as Kerkez is concerned.”

Whether it comes this January or in the summer, Kerkez appears destined for a move to a top side, and it is to be seen if Ange and Levy like him enough for that destination to be White Hart Lane.
