Leeds United eyeing move for Ben Davies

With the January transfer window wide open, Tottenham have already begun reinforcing their backline, with a goalkeeper already signed.

Defenders are also the order of the day, with Tottenham needing to both sign fresh legs and move the old ones on, to which end an exit link has emerged for one of their stalwarts.

Leeds United eyeing move for Ben Davies

As reported by TBR Football, Leeds United are looking to make a move for Tottenham defender Ben Davies. The veteran Welshman is in his eleventh year at the North London club, having made over 340 appearances for them in that time.

He is, however, currently on the sidelines along most of the Lilywhite defence line, nursing a hamstring injury, from which he’s currently expected to return later this month.

Davies is also in the final six months of his current Spurs contract, leaving the door wide open for an exit. Leeds United, currently top of the Championship table in a bid to return to the Big Time, are even considering a winter move for him, which football journalist Ben Jacobs believes is very much a possibility.

“With Ben Davies, I think that he will also be gone. And the same for Fraser Foster as well. With Davies, the natural thing is to run down the contract.

“Leeds United remain interested. So that could be one to watch in the coming weeks. But I think that with Kinsky arriving, Forster falls down the pecking order.”

TTLB Opinion

For over a decade, Ben Davies has been a reliable operator at the back for Tottenham under every manager. However, the time seems to have come to bring his North London chapter to a close.

Davies will have turned 32 years of age by the time his Spurs contract ends in the summer. With his own current injury situation and Tottenham needing a complete overhaul at the back, it makes sense for the club to start afresh.

A step down to the Championship—or even in the bottom half of the Premier League if Leeds were to be promoted—seems like a wise move that could prolong his career at the top level of professional football, for which strongly believe Tottenham should Davies leave, even if they can muster Leeds to spend money of him this month.
