Tottenham Hotspur have been looking to bring in a new midfielder in the ongoing winter transfer window, and the lack of depth in the roster in the middle of the park has led them to pursue a move for Juventus midfielder Nicolo Fagioli, who has been reportedly offered to teams across Europe.
As the Lilywhites look to get back to winning ways following a difficult start to the season, they have been lined with multiple midfielders like Fagioli, Johnny Cardoso, and David Frattesi, among others. And Tottenham can possibly land Fagioli with a cheap price tag of €25 million (£21 million), per TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey, given how he is surplus to the needs of Thiago Motta.
Meanwhile, Inter Milan are asking for a hefty €50 million (£42 million) fee for Frattesi, and any possible winter exit looks unlikely at the moment for him.
Now, Tottenham’s need for urgent signing, coupled with Fagioli’s versatility and creativity, makes the Juve ace an ideal option for Postecoglou’s midfield.
Tottenham aren’t along in pursuing Fagioli
Other Premier League sides, including Manchester City, Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest, Fulham, Crystal Palace, and West Ham, have also expressed interest in signing the 23-year-old Juve’s number 21, and there have been reports stating the Eagles reportedly opening talks with the Italian midfielder, signalling a serious intention to move for him.
Manchester City are infamously without Rodri, who, of course, has left a massive void in Pep’s midfield, and bringing in Fagioli for more depth and assurance at the base of the midfield is something the chiefs at City are looking to do.
Aston Villa, on the other hand, have some midfield misfortunes of their own with John McGinn being out for at least a month after a hamstring injury, and Emery could use the skills Fagioli has, especially given the direct (and contained possession) style of football that they have deployed at Villa Park.
