Pundit claims £40m Tottenham star Pedro Porro kept getting exposed against Tamworth

Tottenham battled past a resilient Tamworth side on their home turf, as the non-league team held the Lilywhites at bay for the full 90 minutes. Spurs found it difficult to break down the National League outfit at the Lamb Ground, with Tamworth creating the more dangerous chances in the first half. Tom Tonk’s spectacular throw-ins and goalie Jasbir Singh’s superb play were major contributors to this.

James Maddison and Brennan Johnson did create a few close chances, but Tottenham’s overall performance in this FA Cup third-round clash was underwhelming, leaving Ange Postecoglou with plenty to ponder. Beyond their lack of attacking creativity, Pedro Porro faced significant defensive struggles against Beck-Ray Besongbap Enoru, as highlighted by a pundit.

The match remained evenly contested well into extra time, with Tottenham showcasing better attacking intent but failing to capitalise on their opportunities. Their lack of clinical finishing was evident, particularly with Timo Werner enduring a disastrous outing. Pedro Porro, a Spain international signed for £40m in January 2023, was expected to dominate against Tamworth.

However, the Spurs No. 23 struggled significantly in the first half, appearing more like a National League player. Tamworth’s Beck-Ray Besongbap Enoru repeatedly outclassed him, even forcing Antonin Kinsky into a sharp save within the opening 30 seconds after a powerful effort towards the top corner.

Stephen Warnock highlighted Pedro Porro’s struggles against Beck-Ray Besongbap Enoru, noting that the Tamworth winger consistently outpaced and outmanoeuvred the Spaniard, both by cutting inside and taking him on the outside. Porro had an equally difficult second half as Enoru’s skill and agility ultimately resulted in the Spurs defender being booked after an outstanding dribble.

Commentating on the game for BBC Radio 5 Live, Stephen Warnock commented

“Enoru has got the beating of Pedro Porro every single time. He is happy to go inside or outside.”

Porro, accustomed to facing some of the biggest names in football, found himself thoroughly tested by Enoru, a Tamworth No.22 who balances his football career with a role as a sales assistant at Zara.
