Ange Postecoglou confirms injury to 28-year-old Tottenham star adding to his woes

Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham Hotspur have one of their most important games of the season on the horizon with the always historic North London derby on the radar. The Aussie tactician will be hoping to beat their local rivals.

More than just pride, a lot is riding on this game for Tottenham. Spurs find themselves 12th in the Premier League table with the results simply not coming for Postecoglou and a loss to Arsenal would further push them into the abyss.

Injuries have certainly not helped the cause of the North London team, with Postecoglou often struggling to put 11 players on the field in their preferred positions. While this is not an excuse, it certainly is an important factor.

Now, as revealed by the manager himself (quoted by Fabrizio Romano), Tottenham are set to miss the services of Timo Werner starting from the North London derby with the German star suffering a hamstring injury. He said:

“Timo Werner has picked up a hamstring injury and we are waiting for the scan results”

Werner might not have set the stage alight at the N17 but he was a useful squad player to have. Although his finishing is abysmal, to say the least, his pace was very productive, especially for a transitional side like Spurs.

There is a reason that Ange Postecoglou gave the 28-year-old regular minutes despite the fans not often buying into this theory and his absence could throw a spanner in the works for the ex-Celtic coach, who will now have decisions to make.

Son Heung-min has not been a guaranteed starter in every game for Tottenham so far this season, despite being the club captain, with Ange Postecoglou looking to manage his minutes. However, the South Korean will now have to step up big time.

More importantly, this also gives a player like Mikey Moore more opportunities on the left wing. The academy graduate has impressed every time he has been given a chance and from this regard, Werner’s injury could turn out to be a blessing in disguise for the youngster.

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Timo Werner at the N17. It is worth noting that he is here only on a loan deal and with this injury, getting back into the XI could end up getting even more difficult for the German. Let’s wait and see how it plays out going forward.
