Tottenham have expressed an interest in signing Wolves star Matheus Cunha in this January transfer window
Tottenham Hotspur have targeted a new striker in this January transfer window despite spending big on Dominic Solanke during the off-season.
Dominic Solanke arrived from Premier League rivals Bournemouth after a prolific 2023/24 campaign that yielded 19 goals in the top flight. However, the England international has played relentlessly for Spurs owing to Richarlison’s injury problems. Ange Postecoglou certainly has to start resting him at some point this campaign to avoid potential burnout.
As a result, Tottenham are looking to bring in a new striker this month and are interested in signing Wolverhampton Wanderers star Matheus Cunha.

This season, Matheus Cunha has shown great quality and has been performing well in front of goal, standing out as a key player in a Wolves side that is battling against relegation. The Brazilian’s technical quality, flair and knack for creating chances and scoring goals have made him a valuable player for Wolves, and his progression has caught the attention of several top Premier League clubs including Spurs.

With competition for the South America’s signature intense, Spurs do need to pull a rabbit out of the hat to get him. However, ex-Spurs scout Bryan King believes Tottenham will need to pay Cunha hefty wages if they want to entice him to North London this year.
“I think Tottenham are quite strong in the forward areas,” Bryan King exclusively told Tottenham News.
“Cunha might be somebody that they’re looking at. However, I couldn’t see the point in Spurs signing him, unless they’re going to let some players go.
“And he is going to want decent wages, and when I say decent wages I mean big money wages.”

Despite Wolves struggling at the wrong end of the table, Cunha and his representatives are reportedly not angling for a move away from Molineux during this winter window. They are aware of interest from the Premier League and cash-rich Saudi Pro League clubs. Wolves themselves are reluctant to let their star forward leave midway through their relegation battle.

While Cunha’s decision to not force away a move from the Black County outfit is a blow for Spurs, it needs to be mentioned that the versatile forward’s potential new contract will include a £45million release clause which would become active should Vitor Pereira’s side be relegated from the Premier League.

Spending £45million on Cunha should be a fantastic investment based on his goalscoring form this season, overall attributes, versatility and potential to become even better. However, that fee would interest a lot of clubs from the English top-flight and Europe. In that regard, it could come down to which club is willing to pay him the most and fulfil his wage demands.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is known to be a shrewd operator and works on a tight budget, thus, Cunha demanding big wages to leave Wolves in the summer would not be good news for the Lilywhites.
