Ange Postecoglou provides an update on Timo Werner’s Tottenham future
Tottenham Hotspur forward Timo Werner has been one of the team’s most frustrating players to watch in the 2024/25 season and not very long ago, Ange Postecoglou also criticised him in front of the media. The Australian’s words on Werner resulted in talks regarding the possible termination of his loan in the ongoing winter transfer window with a return to RB Leipzig.
However, Postecoglou has refuted such claims and wants Werner to stay put until the summer. He said the following to Football London regarding the forward’s future.

“Yeah [I expect him to still be here after the January window]. The last thing I want is to lose another player at the moment. The other night after Rodrigo went off, we had 11 first-team players out. We’re not letting anyone go at this point.”
The Tottenham boss also expressed that Werner was doing well in training sessions and was far from a problem to the team’s atmosphere. He also admitted that his criticism of the German international was driven by a series of frustrating results and should be interpreted more as feedback as opposed to a negative comment.

Though Werner staying is a massive plus for Tottenham in terms of squad depth, it remains to be seen how much utility he adds once Richarlison is fit and starts to have minutes under his belt. That said, it could still be only the final six months of the former Chelsea star’s time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with the Londoners unlikely to turn his loan deal into a permanent transfer.
