Club insider speaks about potential N17 exit of Tottenham winger amid Napoli links

Date:

Tottenham Hotspur centre forward Timo Werner has been struggling to replicate his potential in the ongoing 2024/25 campaign, and there have been calls for concluding his loan spell at White Hart Lane given his underwhelming returns.

And given the fact that the North Londoners can dip into the market in the ongoing winter window, there is a possibility that the German striker cum wide forward could leave the Lilywhites for Italian side Napoli, with the Serie A giants identifying the former Chelsea ace as a potential replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who is reported on his way to PSG.

Napoli are keen, but a deal doesn’t make sense

Napoli are said to be keeping tabs on Werner’s situation at Hotspur Way, per Gianluca Di Marzio. However, John Wenham, owner of the reputed Spurs podcast Lilywhites Rose, suggests that Napoli will have to come up with an expensive financial agreement if RB Leipzig, Werner’s parent club, were to sanction a move by cancelling the ongoing loan deal with the North Londoners.

And speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, the podcast host claimed:

“Look, the situation with Werner is actually quite simple. From my point of view, I think Leipzig will only be willing to cancel Werner’s loan at Tottenham under the condition that they can strike the same deal they struck with us, with another club.

“Therefore, we’re relying on Napoli agreeing to take on his £165,000-per-week wages. As a result, we will need to wait and see what happens.”

Werner has a lot of convincing to do

The 28-year-old forward has failed to convince the supporters about his potential, with a wide section of the supporters having called for Tottenham to find a way to part ways with him if he doesn’t improve.

But this recent Napoli’s involvement that will be interesting.

The Lilywhites will now have to assess whether Werner is fit enough to play at N17 and see what other options will come up to help them if there is a potential departure. As of now, Werner’s uncertain future hangs over Tottenham’s decisions in the January transfer window.
