Ange Postecoglou confirms Tottenham’s plans to send Academy talent on loan

Date:

Tottenham plan to send academy talent Will Lankshear on loan

Tottenham Hotspur have been active in this January transfer window, as Ange Postecoglou looks to get their Premier League season back on track.

Spurs have started the winter window well by adding goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky to the Australian tactician’s roster. Kinsky has enjoyed a strong start to life in North London, keeping back-to-back clean sheets in Spurs’ cup wins over Liverpool (Carabao Cup) and Tamworth FC (FA Cup).

Ange Postecoglou also remains in the market for defensive and attacking reinforcements owing to his squad’s ongoing injury crisis. Apart from signing players, the club also have the responsibility of finding the right loan moves for academy kids, young talents and fringe players. They have already sent academy kid Alfie Dorrington on loan to Scottish side Aberdeen, while fellow academy prospect Tyrese Hall is attracting interest from Championship outfit Stoke City.

Big Ange has opened up on Tottenham’s January plans

Now, Postecoglou has confirmed that Tottenham are planning to let another academy talent leave on loan before the January transfer window slams shut, despite the club still being in the midst of an injury crisis. Their plan is still to allow Will Lankshear to depart on loan for the remainder of the season for more game time.

“We can’t afford to let anyone go at the moment. Some of the young players, Alfie Dorrington went out on loan and we will probably do similar for young Will (Lankshear) because he hasn’t really played a lot. Aside from that, we are looking at incomings if anything happens,” the Tottenham boss told Football London.

Timo Werner, who has been recently linked with a move to Antonio Conte’s Napoli, suffered a hamstring injury earlier this week. Despite Werner’s injury, Will Lankshear will go out on loan as Richarlison returns from a two-month injury layoff.

Lankshear made his senior debut for Tottenham in their Europa League win over Ferencvaros in October and scored his first goal during the dramatic 3-2 defeat to Galatasaray in Turkey just a month later. The young striker was then sent off against Galatasaray at the Rams Park after receiving two bookings. He has played just nine minutes in all competitions since, despite an injury to Richarlison in that time.

Big Ange left the England under-20 international on the bench in Sunday’s FA Cup win over non-League Tamworth FC, handing Werner a start up top. Lankshear would have been disappointed about not getting any minutes against Tamworth in the FA Cup, given how his fellow academy teammate Mikey Moore got a start after recently returning from injury.

However, Big Ange’s decision to not hand Lankshear any minutes on Sunday shows that he was protecting the young striker from sustaining any injuries ahead of a potential loan move.
