There have been reports surrounding Real Madrid’s interest in signing Tottenham Hotspur’s emerging 18-year-old Archie Gray, with Fichajes stating that Los Blancos are monitoring him despite playing out of position for Ange Postecoglou’s struggling Spurs side.
The teenager has taken advantage of the defensive injury struggles at White Hart Lane this season as Ange Postecoglou used the versatile ace as a makeshift solution at the heart of the defence, and he has made the most out of it. He has not only shown maturity beyond his years but also showed exactly what he can bring to the team when played in the right roles.

And hence the interest from Madrid doesn’t come as a surprise to many, but the ex-Spurs scout has taken the rumours with a hint of scepticism, insisting that these reports are premature. Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, he said:
“I don’t believe this rumour.
“I’m not having that. Why would they be interested in Gray? If they’re going to spend money on a Tottenham player then they’d sign Micky van de Ven. To me, it sounds like somebody is filling space in the newspapers. Real Madrid looking at Gray? Maybe in two or three years, once he is established, not now. We’re not playing fantasy football here.”
What now for Archie Gray?
Real Madrid are now shifting towards a young team with players who have time and time again proven their credentials, and a move for Gray at this stage could be too early to fit the bill. While the teenager has still to fully nail down a place in the Tottenham team, a move to the Spanish giants could set his development back.
But at the moment, he remains put at White Hart Lane, and hopefully, he gets more opportunities to showcase his talents in his preferred positions in the second half of the season.
