Tottenham have been subject to links with Brighton striker Evan Ferguson
With just over two weeks to go in the January transfer window, Tottenham Hotspur need to speed up their transfer activity.
After the acquisition of goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague, most Spurs fans would probably want the club to make additions in both defence and attack.
In the 2-1 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, teenage midfielder Archie Gray lined up alongside Radu Dragusin once again and Djed Spence played 90 minutes at left-back. So, it is evident why defensive reinforcements are an absolute must. In addition, the Lilywhites need a striker who can provide some much-needed cover for club-record signing Dominic Solanke, who has run himself to the ground.
Paris Saint-Germain striker Randal Kolo Muani was Spurs’ priority target in this transfer window but he has chosen to join Juventus on loan. Tottenham, though, have other alternative targets on their shortlist which include Brighton and Hove Albion’s Evan Ferguson.
An ankle injury suffered towards the back end of last season derailed the progress of Evan Ferguson. He has lost his first-team status at Brighton following the appointment of Fabian Hurzeler as the new boss at the start of the season. Hurzeler has preferred Danny Welbeck and Joao Pedro to lead his attack ahead of Ferguson, limiting the Republic of Ireland international to only two Premier League starts.

Injuries have also played a part in the young centre-forward’s lack of minutes, with him missing the last four games with an ankle problem. Nonetheless, Hurzeler confirmed earlier this week that Ferguson could leave Brighton on loan before the transfer window slams shut.
According to the Daily Telegraph journalist Mike McGrath, speaking on the Last Word on Spurs podcast, Ferguson’s situation could well develop in the coming weeks amid links with Spurs. He says the 20-year-old could leave right at the end of the January transfer window as the Seagulls are still considering every factor before making a final decision on his future.
“Evan Ferguson. I touched on this earlier in the show. It’s going to be really interesting. They’re waiting on Danny Welbeck and how he returns from injury and whether he returns from injury. It will be really late in the window when they make a decision on that and whether he’ll be allowed out,” Mike McGrath said on the Last Word on Spurs podcast.
“Fulham like him, Potter worked with him at Brighton, Spurs are in that bracket of clubs as well.”

Tottenham could use a young striker in Ferguson for depth after Solanke has pretty much played every game this season. Richarlison missing the majority part of the first season has forced Big Ange to constantly use Solanke, who actually looked leggy in the North London derby defeat at the Emirates Stadium.

Even though Ferguson has had a rough 2024, his talent knows no bounds. With 13 goals to his name in 27 league starts for Brighton, the Irishman striker has proved he knows where the back of the net is. He would be an exciting option on loan to have in Big Ange’s squad, fitting the club’s recruitment strategy too.
Thus, Tottenham must aim to beat competition from their Premier League rivals for Ferguson’s signature.
